Why do you style?

I style hair, because its something I dreamed about and pretended to do from a very young child. I can remember at the age of 8 years old being so fascinated with the whole beauty shop experience. All of this started with the trips to the salon with my mother. I knew then that is what I wanted to be a “Hair Stylist”.

Where did you train?

I went to Cosmetology school two different times. At the same school in 1972, stopped had two children and then went back in 1977. Graduated in 1979 from California Hair Design Academy , at the top of my class.

How long have you been styling hair?

I have been styling hair now for 33 years. In the beginning of my career I attended a lot of classes with all the top product lines, Toni & Guy, KMS, Paul Mitchell, and Redken. All the classes have helped me understand the care of hair and have helped me develop my own style and techniques.

Growing up in Illinois , my best friend, a guy, and I were always playing beauty shop. We would get the girls in the neighborhood to come over, especially in the winter time, it was cold and we were forced to stay indoors. He and I would do their hair, make- up and pierce their ears; we would take care of all of their beauty needs. It was so much fun.

Styling curly hair has been some what of an evolution for me. In the beginning I was consumed with color (I still love to do color). Clients and friends would come to me with bad hair experiences on curly hair. One thing led to another and now I do it all cut, color, straighten, relax, yuko system.
